Landscapers in Oregon are licensed thru the State’s Landscape Contractors Board (LCB).
Any licensed landscaping company will have an LCB number, and will prominently display it, like this: “LCB# XXXXXX”
This licensing is a guarantee of a number of protections for you, the client.
It lets you know they are bonded, which means there is protected money put aside in case they leave your project unfinished.
It lets you know the company has insurance, in case something they do damages your property.
It lets you know they are bonded, which means there is protected money put aside in case they leave your project unfinished.
And it lets you know the business is official, pays their taxes, and carries appropriate workers' compensation insurance.
The Oregon LCB provides a free dispute resolution program: independent arbitration provided by the state. There's no need to go to court to get legally binding results if you have a dispute with a licensed contractor. Ultimately, you get a judgement issued with the authority of a Judge of Administrative Law.
